Cambodia visa requirements depend on your nationality, passport, reason for visiting and intended entry point. Begin with the official Cambodian e-Visa service or the Cambodian embassy responsible for your place of residence. Confirm the applicable route before relying on another traveller's experience or paying a visa assistance website.
Reviewed on 25 October 2026. This guide explains how to prepare and compare official instructions. It does not provide a nationality-specific eligibility decision, and entry rules can change after publication.
Identify the correct visa route
A holiday, a business visit and a longer stay may require different arrangements. Describe your actual purpose when asking an embassy for guidance. Do not choose a category simply because an online discussion says that it is easier to obtain.
For context, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in London's tourist visa page describes a single-entry tourist visa with three-month validity and a 30-day permitted stay. These are the terms described by that embassy, not a universal promise for every passport or application channel.
Read the instructions for your own application route in full. If a temporary visa exemption is mentioned elsewhere, confirm its eligible passports, dates and conditions through an official source. A promotional announcement does not establish that the arrangement is still in force.
Understand validity and permitted stay
Visa validity and the length of time you may remain in Cambodia answer different questions. The first concerns when a visa can be used; the second concerns the period of the authorised visit. Do not interpret a three-month validity period as permission to stay for three months.
Check the approval document when it arrives. Compare the entry conditions with the dates of your flights and accommodation. If the document does not match what you requested, contact the issuing authority before you travel.
Single entry also matters when an itinerary includes leaving and returning. Do not assume an unused portion of a stay allows another entry. Explain the complete route, including a regional side trip, when asking which permission you need.
Check the passport you will use
Use the same passport details consistently throughout the application and your travel arrangements. Review the number, expiry date, spelling and any additional names. A small typing error can be difficult to correct when you are already at an airline desk.
The London embassy page lists at least six months of passport validity on entry and two blank pages for its tourist visa process. Check the current requirements of your own issuing authority and airline rather than treating this summary as sufficient for every case.
If you have more than one nationality, decide which passport you will use for this journey before applying. Ask the relevant authority how to handle any unusual document situation, including a recently replaced passport. Do not improvise a solution by combining details from different documents.
Use an official application channel
The Cambodian e-Visa portal is the government online service. Type the address carefully or follow a link from a Cambodian embassy. Search advertisements and websites with similar names may belong to private assistance companies.
A private service may charge for handling an application in addition to any government charge. Before paying, check who provides the service, what assistance is included and where you will receive the result. The cheapest-looking first screen may not show the complete cost.
If a portal is unavailable, return later or contact the appropriate embassy through its published channels. Avoid sending passport scans to an unsolicited account offering to bypass the normal process. An unexpected message should not become your new application channel.
Confirm that your entry point accepts the document
A valid visa is only part of the travel plan. Check whether the entry point you intend to use accepts that visa and whether the crossing or airport route is operating. This is particularly important for overland itineraries.
Write down the exact border crossing rather than describing the journey only as entering from a neighbouring country. Ask the official authority about that specific crossing. The rules for one port do not automatically establish the rules for another.
Recheck regional travel advice before purchasing an overland ticket. If a crossing is closed, a visa approval does not reopen it. Our Cambodia safety guide explains how to use current regional warnings when reviewing a proposed route.
Prepare the application materials
Gather the documents requested by the official application channel before starting. Depending on its instructions, these may include a passport image, photograph and details of your journey or accommodation. Use the current specifications rather than resizing an old photograph by guesswork.
Read the information directly from your passport when completing the form. Check the application on a larger screen if a small phone display makes reviewing names or dates difficult. Ask a travelling companion to compare the information, while protecting your personal documents.
Keep an application reference and the contact details of the issuing authority. If a request for further information arrives, verify that it belongs to the application you submitted. Respond through the recognised channel and retain a copy of the exchange.
Allow time for corrections
Apply within the timing specified for your chosen route. Leave room for a document query, payment problem or correction, rather than making the last available day your target. Processing estimates are not guaranteed departure arrangements.
Do not submit repeated applications solely because an email has not appeared immediately. Check the status facility, reference number and spam folder, then ask the issuing authority what to do. Multiple submissions can leave you uncertain about which approval applies.
After approval, download the document and review it before closing the task. Save an offline copy and follow any printing instructions. Keep it accessible with your passport rather than inside checked luggage.
Complete the arrival declaration too
The arrival declaration and visa permission perform different functions, even where a digital system brings several steps together. Use the Cambodia e-Arrival portal for its current instructions. Do not assume that an email confirming one process completes the other.
Our e-Arrival guide explains what information to gather and how to prepare for the submission window. Check the exact flight, arrival date and first accommodation before entering the details.
Finally, put your visa, arrival confirmation, ticket and hotel address together in an offline folder. Review your airline's document requirements before check-in. Once these entry tasks are settled, return to the Cambodia travel checklist to coordinate the rest of the journey.
