Pack for Cambodia around your confirmed activities, the weather forecast for your destinations and the luggage allowance on every transport booking. Start with documents and items you need during the journey, then add clothing and equipment for the days you have actually planned. Leave space for the return trip instead of filling every compartment before departure.
Reviewed on 25 October 2026. This is a practical packing framework, not an airline baggage policy, a medical recommendation or a statement of customs permission. Check the relevant authorities and providers for items subject to specific rules.
Build the list from the itinerary
Write down what each day involves: a flight, a city visit, a temple excursion, a countryside activity, a boat journey or time at your accommodation. Beside each activity, note anything specifically required by the provider.
This makes it easier to distinguish useful equipment from items you might never use. Ask what is supplied before buying something for an excursion. Check footwear and clothing instructions, especially for activities where ordinary sightseeing clothes may be unsuitable.
Consider how often you move between bases. A bag that is comfortable for a single airport transfer can become awkward when you need to carry it through several connections. Choose the luggage around the complete route, not just the flight into Cambodia.
Keep the essential documents together
Prepare your passport, applicable visa approval, arrival confirmation, tickets and first accommodation details. Save the relevant documents offline and follow any official printing instructions.
Use our Cambodia visa guide and e-Arrival guide to check those tasks separately. An organised folder helps only when its contents match the passport and journey you will actually use.
Keep secure copies apart from the originals. Share the essential itinerary and an appropriate contact method with someone you trust. Avoid making a single phone, email login or bag the only place where every important record can be found.
Pack a small arrival kit
Put the items you will need before reaching your room in cabin baggage. That usually means your documents, accommodation address, charging cable, necessary personal items and a change of clothes appropriate to your own circumstances.
Keep the first-night arrangements easy to retrieve. Save the property's full name, address, map pin and contact number, plus the airport pickup instructions if you booked one. You should not need to unpack your main suitcase to find them.
If arriving late, think through the first few hours: clearing arrivals, reaching transport, checking in and getting ready for sleep. Pack for that sequence. Our Techo Airport guide helps you choose the transfer that suits the luggage you bring.
Choose clothing you can use repeatedly
Build a small set of clothes that works across your actual activities. Compare the expected weather and the facilities at your accommodation before deciding how many changes you need.
For religious or cultural sites, check the current visitor dress requirements with the relevant site authority. Choose garments that let you meet those rules comfortably. Do not assume a layer carried in your bag will necessarily satisfy a site's requirements in every situation.
Bring footwear you already know you can wear for the planned amount of walking. A new pair chosen at the last moment can become an unnecessary problem. If an outdoor excursion requires particular shoes, confirm that instruction with the provider rather than relying on a generic travel list.
Prepare for the weather you are likely to encounter
Check forecasts for the places you will visit close to departure. A broad description of Cambodia's seasons cannot establish the conditions for a specific island crossing or countryside excursion.
Choose a practical way to protect the items that matter if rain interrupts a transfer. Think about documents and electronics as well as clothing. A bag cover is useful only if it fits and can be reached before your luggage is already exposed.
Consider drying arrangements when comparing accommodation and planning laundry. Clothing quantity should reflect how you will actually manage a longer trip. For weather-dependent activities, ask the operator about equipment, cancellation arrangements and the conditions under which the activity proceeds.
Handle medicines and personal requirements early
If you travel with medication, check the applicable entry rules and any documentation required through official sources. Ask an appropriate health professional about your own travel needs well before departure.
Keep necessary medication accessible according to its storage instructions and the rules for the journey. Do not change packaging or transfer everything into an unlabelled container merely to save space without checking whether that creates a problem.
For other personal requirements, list what is essential for the first days and what can reasonably wait. Contact your accommodation when you need a specific facility or storage arrangement. A written confirmation is more useful than assuming every property can provide the same support.
Check electronics against transport rules
Review your airline's current baggage instructions for batteries, power banks, liquids and any equipment you intend to carry. Apply the rules to each part of a connecting journey, particularly if different carriers or smaller aircraft are involved.
Put charging cables and permitted equipment where they can be reached during the trip. Download maps, booking details and the documents you will need before leaving reliable internet access.
If you depend on a particular device, plan how you will manage without it temporarily. An offline address, another way to retrieve a reservation and an accessible contact number can prevent a flat battery from disrupting the whole arrival.
Leave room for purchases without overpacking
Decide which kinds of items you might want to bring home before using all your baggage allowance. Fragile objects need protective space, while food or plant-based products may require checks with the destination country's authorities.
Keep receipts and original labels when they help identify a purchase. A seller's statement that other visitors have carried something home does not establish that it is permitted at your destination.
For a focused buying list, use the Cambodian gifts and souvenirs guide. For the actual flight home, our souvenir packing checklist covers the separate task of organising purchases. This guide focuses on what you need for the journey itself.
Do one final test pack
Pack the bag you intend to use, check its size and weight against the booking, and make sure you can handle it through the planned connections. Include the day bag and any extra items that count towards an allowance.
Place travel-day essentials where you can retrieve them without emptying the luggage. Then remove things included only for an activity you have not booked and are unlikely to do.
Finish with the Cambodia travel checklist: documents ready, accommodation confirmed, transport understood and luggage suitable for the route. A manageable bag leaves you more freedom to enjoy the places you came to explore.
